Drama/Theatre Plays Report
West Prince Arts Council
Year 2007-2008

During the 2007-2008 year many plays were presented in West Prince. Most were performed during the summer months and many were drama plays done as part of a dinner theatre. There were also plays organized for the West Prince Music Festival by local schools and performed at their respective locations.

V’nez Chou Nous
Another successful year for this Acadian summer dinner theatre. This was their 18th season and their first year in the new building located in Deblois. The cast of six energetic performers had three presentations in July and five in August. The play was "Le Raconteur", which included stepdancing, singing, and showing great acting abilities.

Tignish Drama Club
The 9 to 11 cast members have been preparing two 3-act plays per year, one before Christmas, and the other in the spring at the Tignish Parish Hall. Cast members Paul Shea and Tim Gillis have been sharing the role of director for a number of years. On the 10th of June this year (2008) Clair O'Shea, a long-time member and supporter, passed away. Mrs. O'Shea had received the John Hunter-Duvar Award from the West Prince Arts Council in 2005. She will be missed.

Cousins Dinner Theatre have done it again with their play called "Misbehavin' Again". This six-member cast put a lot of time and energy into their performance. This was their 9th year. The play was written by Erin Dunn and directed by Michelle and Ruby, owners of Cousin's Restaurant where the play was held. There were two presentations per week from July to mid-September for a total of 17 shows. With bar service available, this play is for 18 years and over. Tourist and local supporters alike look forward to this Dinner Theatre each year.

Skit ‘N Skof
Since 1995 this group has delighted the audience with their comedy, performance, and their ability to entertain. Organized, directed and written from a large cast of mostly family members, their last play "The Secret Lives of Henry and Josephine" had two presentations in October at the Westisle Theatre.

St Luke’s Hall
continues to entertain their audiences, show after show. Organizer and Master of Ceremony Perry Batten always has a cast of local artists that bring laughter and appreciation to those in attendance. Performances include various skits, comedy, and a variety of music in a welcoming atmosphere. Presentations occur year-long at the St.Luke's Hall at the O'Leary Corner.

Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus, Palmer Road, presented two plays this past year. Cast members and direction are from the Knights' membership. They use their play as a fundraising activity for their hall.

Britannia Hall, Tyne Valley
This group presented their community play to a sell-out crowd at each of their 8 productions. They offer their audience and supporters a fantastic play. They have a 12-member cast and direction comes from within.

Tignish Shore Community Centre has been organizing a mixture of music, dance and skit performances for a number of years now. "Down at the Shore Goes Across Canada...eh!" was presented in July and August 2007. This presentation is organized and directed by Lisa, Leona, Ann and Donna. The community is much appreciative of their great artistic work.

Respectfully,
